Ahmedabad: A game-changing spell from pacer Prasidh Krishna (2/18) complemented Sai Sudharsan’s sparkling half-century as Gujarat Titans secured a commanding 36-run win over the Mumbai Indians in the IPL here on Saturday.
Sudharsan showcased his growing stature with a composed 63 off 41 balls (4×4, 2×6), and his 78-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill (38 27b; 4×4, 1×6) led Gujarat to 196 for eight after Mumbai opted to bowl.
In reply, Tilak Varma (39; 36b, 3×4, 1c6) and Suryakumar Yadav (48; 28b, 1×4, 4×6) stitched a promising 62-run stand off 42 balls for the third wicket, but all Mumbai could manage was 160 for six.
Mohammed Siraj struck twice in the powerplay, accounting for India captain Rohit Sharma and fellow opener Ryan Rickelton, while Krishna got two wickets and dried up the runs in the middle and death overs as he finished with 2/18 in four overs. Pacer Kaigso Rabada and spinner R Sai Kishore picked up a wicket. Strike bowler Rashid Khan did not finish his quota of four overs, underlining the dominance from GT in the match.
Suryakumar Yadav found some much-needed form as he scored 48 runs off 28 balls, including four sixes. Tilak Varma got 39 runs but faced 36 balls to get there. Captain Hardik Pandya, who walked out in the 13th over, could manage just 11 runs off 17 balls. Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir scored 18 runs each to reduce the margin of defeat in the last few overs.
Next, GT will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Bengaluru on April 2, while MI will host Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.
