PM Modi’s swearing-in moved to June 9

New Delhi: The swearing-in ceremony for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term has reportedly been rescheduled from June 8 to June 9 at 6 pm due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’, according to sources.

The delay has been attributed to ongoing discussions with BJP’s major allies.

Although the NDA surpassed the 290-seat mark, the BJP fell short of the majority threshold of 272 seats in the Lok Sabha. Its allies, Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP in Andhra Pradesh and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) in Bihar, have emerged as crucial supporters in forming the coalition government.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the JD(U) won 12 seats while the TDP secured 17 seats in Andhra Pradesh.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by hundreds of guests, including foreign dignitaries.

Sources have confirmed that invitations have been extended to leaders from neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mauritius, reflecting India’s commitment to regional cooperation and diplomatic relations.

The guest list of heads of state, countries, and high-ranking officials is expected to mirror the priorities of the Modi government’s third term.

An official noted that the presence of foreign dignitaries will underscore the global interest in India’s political landscape and the continuity of Modi’s leadership.

Over 25-30 ministers are also expected to be sworn in alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
