Parliament’s Winter Session Set to Begin Nov 25 with Key Bills on Agenda

New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament is expected to kick off on November 25, running through December 20. High on the legislative agenda are the One Nation One Election and Waqf bills, which are likely to spark debate in the House.

The outcomes of the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections on November 23 are expected to influence the session’s proceedings. After a recent setback in Haryana, the Congress and its allies in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) aim to secure power in Maharashtra and retain leadership in Jharkhand, shaping the political atmosphere in Parliament.

Additionally, a resolution to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir may be tabled, signaling a step towards reestablishing constitutional rights and preserving the region’s unique identity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah recently discussed statehood restoration with Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, emphasizing the issue’s significance.

A special joint session of Parliament will take place on November 26 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution adoption. The gathering, expected to be held in the historic Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan, will honor the Constituent Assembly’s adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949. If introduced, the One Nation One Election Bill could encounter strong opposition resistance, underscoring the legislative intensity of this session.
