Outcome of Assembly polls next year in TN will be similar to those seen in 1967, 1977: Vijay

Chennai:  Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay on Wednesday expressed confidence of his party winning the 2026 Assembly election, and he recalled the 1967 and 1977 polls that installed fresh regimes in the state.

Vijay, unveiling the exclusive app for membership enrolment at the party headquarters here, said the result of the 2026 polls would also be similar to that of elections held in 1967 and 1977.

“We are firm about this and we have been talking about this,” he said, addressing party functionaries, adding the outcome of those polls was in favour of new parties.

TVK founder Vijay is reportedly has laid the foundation for a grassroots-level political movement backed by technology. At a recent party event in Chennai, Vijay unveiled the MYTVK mobile app, a tool designed to boost statewide membership enrollment and monitor booth-level efforts in real-time.

This initiative is part of TVK’s larger strategy to emulate the game-changing elections of 1967 and 1977, when new political forces overthrew entrenched parties by directly engaging with the people. Drawing inspiration from C.N. Annadurai’s philosophy—“Be with the people, plan with them, and live for them”—TVK is targeting enrollment of two crore primary members and five crore total supporters, including family members. The app, expected to go live on August 15, marks TVK’s pivot toward a tech-driven campaign model as it prepares to disrupt the traditional power structure in Tamil Nadu.
