New Delhi: Slamming AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks that “poison” is being mixed in the Yamuna, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that fearing their defeat in the Delhi polls, “AAP-da people” have turned desperate.
Addressing a public meeting in Kartar Nagar here in the run-up to the February 5 assembly polls, he also likened AAP leaders to serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who gained notoriety for duping people.
“Are people of Haryana different from those in Delhi? Are relatives of those living in Haryana not residing in Delhi? Can the people of Haryana poison the water their own people drink? The water sent by Haryana is consumed by everyone living in Delhi be it judges or diplomats … it also includes this Prime Minister,” Modi said.
“Those who built ‘sheesh mahal’ and those who looted public money worth thousands of crores of rupees can never think of the welfare of the poor. That is why they are spreading lies in Delhi. These AAP-da people speak lies with such innocence that people get trapped,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that the people of Delhi will teach a lesson to those who say such things, adding that “AAPda’s” corrupt actions will drown in the same Yamuna.
“This is not just an insult to Haryana but to all Indians. Ours is a country where providing drinking water is considered a good deed…Such fear of losing that they are saying anything. I am sure Delhi will teach a lesson to people who say such things. in aapda walon ki llutiya Yamuna mein hi doobegi,” he said.
The remarks came in response to a row over Kejriwal’s charge that the BJP government in Haryana is “poisoning” the river.
During the rally, PM Modi accused AAP of making false promises in its bid to garner votes.
Modi’s comments were aimed at the party’s previous claims, particularly its focus on cleaning the Yamuna River, which he argued had failed to deliver any tangible results.
“The area of Delhi I’m addressing today lies on the banks of the Yamuna. The mood here reflects what the city is thinking,” said PM Modi, criticizing the AAP’s previous promises to clean the river.
“Delhi is saying that excuses like ‘aapda’ (disaster) won’t work anymore. Fake promises, lies, and the loot of ‘aapda’ won’t work now,” he added, accusing the AAP of misleading the people with unfulfilled commitments.
In his speech, Modi also appealed to the people of Delhi to give him a chance to serve them, emphasizing that he would treat them like family and work to fulfill their dreams.
“I will take care of you like family, your dreams will be mine; give me strength to fulfill your dreams,” the Prime Minister said at the rally, seeking support for his party ahead of the Delhi elections.
Modi also spoke about th recent tragedy at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, offering his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
“Before I begin my address, a sad incident occurred at the Maha Kumbh. We have lost some sacred souls, and some people have been injured. I express my condolences to the affected families and pray for the quick recovery of those injured,” Modi said.
Elections in Delhi will take place in a single phase on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8.
