West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent visit to Oxford University turned into an embarrassing debacle, laying bare her contradictions and anti-India stance. Instead of strengthening India’s image on a global platform, she found herself at the receiving end of protests over the Kar Hospital rape case and allegations of minority appeasement in her state. Rather than addressing genuine concerns, Banerjee resorted to hollow reassurances, failing to convince the agitated students who see through her selective outrage and political opportunism. Her intolerance towards dissent, which she frequently exhibits in West Bengal by cracking down on critics and even arresting people for chanting ‘Jai Shriram,’ was on full display in Oxford as well. The fact that such protests erupted on foreign soil during her visit—intended to attract investment—speaks volumes about the credibility crisis she faces both at home and abroad. The world is watching closely, and Banerjee can no longer hide behind rhetoric while her governance failures accumulate. Adding to her missteps, Banerjee’s outright dismissal of international financial institutions’ reports projecting India’s economic rise exposes her unwillingness to acknowledge the nation’s progress under the current central government. With global agencies affirming that India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy, her denial is not just baseless but smacks of political insecurity. Instead of celebrating India’s economic success, she prefers to peddle a false narrative that aligns with her party’s narrow interests.
Another damning revelation came from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent address in Parliament, where he exposed how the TMC government has turned West Bengal into a haven for illegal immigrants. The passage of the new Immigration Law aims to address this pressing issue, particularly targeting illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar who have been given Aadhaar and voter ID cards to bolster TMC’s vote bank. Shah minced no words in holding Banerjee accountable for obstructing border security efforts and enabling unchecked infiltration, which has serious national security implications. It is no secret that TMC operatives have actively resisted the construction of border fencing, creating a porous entry point for illegal migrants. This deliberate inaction has led to demographic imbalances, increased crime, and security threats that extend beyond West Bengal to other parts of India. The Centre’s renewed commitment to identifying and deporting illegal immigrants on a war footing is a necessary step to undo the damage caused by TMC’s appeasement politics. Mamata Banerjee’s hypocrisy stands exposed. She champions ‘secularism’ while practicing blatant minority appeasement. She claims to uphold democracy but suppresses dissent. She travels abroad seeking investments but ends up facing global condemnation. She refuses to acknowledge India’s economic growth because it does not serve her political narrative. And worst of all, she prioritizes political gains over national security by enabling illegal immigration. India cannot afford leaders who undermine national interests for electoral benefits. The sooner West Bengal realizes this, the better for the state and the country.
