Kerala seeing BJP wave; people fed up with UDF-LDF: PM to booth workers

New Delhi  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday told BJP booth workers in Kerala that the party’s success in the Thiruvananthapuram local body polls reflects a growing wave of support ahead of the April 9 Assembly election.

In a virtual interaction, Modi said it is evident that this time, Kerala is not just choosing a new government but also a new system.

“In this election, there is a wave of support for the BJP-NDA. Thiruvananthapuram has set a new precedent. Until now, both the Left and the Congress believed they could alternate in power regardless of the misrule or misgovernance that occurred. However, Thiruvananthapuram has shattered that perception,” Modi said.

Virtually interacting with BJP workers, the prime minister was particularly critical of the Congress, which he said has become “Maoist Muslim League Congress”. He said Kerala now needs a double-engine government of the BJP-led NDA that will push for central schemes. Urging the people to give five years to the NDA, PM Modi said ex-soldiers are so full of patriotism that they choose the BJP.

“In this election, there is a wave of support for the BJP-NDA. Thiruvananthapuram has set a new precedent. Until now, both the Left and the Congress believed they could alternate in power regardless of the misrule or misgovernance that occurred. However, Thiruvananthapuram has shattered that perception,” PM Modi said.

“As a result, the UDF and LDF are now focusing their attacks on the BJP rather than on each other… the people are fed up with the loot by the UDF and LDF,” he added.

The prime minister even drew a cricket analogy over this and invoked Indian cricket team batsman Sanju Samson, who is from the coastal state, highlighting the importance of rising to this occasion. He urged the BJP karyakartas to ensure that their efforts should focus on connecting with every household, adding that they may even have to put in some extra hours for the party’s success.

“We often witness this in the performances of Sanju Samson. During the World Cup, as the tournament reached its crucial knockout stages, his performance peaked. From start to finish, his focus, confidence, and intensity only grew stronger — hallmarks of a true sportsman. A great player always delivers when his team needs him the most,” he said.

Assembly elections will be held in Kerala in a single phase on April 9. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.
