Jammu: Union minister Jitendra Singh has emphasised that drawing strength from the rich Dogra legacy, it is now time to make a significant mark on the global stage where India has already become an integral part since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a programme organised here to observe ‘Dogra Diwas’ commemorating the inclusion of Dogri language in the Constitution and the ‘Dogra Legacy Excellence Awards 2024’, Singh highlighted the rich Dogra legacy.
Even after Partition, the region produced internationally acclaimed icons such as renowned space scientist and ISRO founder Satish Dhawan, celebrated singer Malika Pukhraj, and legendary musicians Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Allah Rakha, Singh said.
Singh emphasised the notable contributions of the Dogra community, even after Partition. Icons like ISRO founder Satish Dhawan, singer Malika Pukhraj, and musicians Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Allah Rakha have gained international acclaim. However, Singh acknowledged that these achievements might not be widely recognised in some circles.
Celebrating this legacy is crucial for inspiration and confidence. It is equally important to preserve it for future generations by continuing its legacy. Singh stressed that in today’s context, this involves ensuring Dogra contributions are part of building Viksit Bharat 2047.
According to Singh, there has been a revival of Dogra pride over the past decade under Modi’s government. This resurgence is attributed to decisions like declaring Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday a holiday, observing Jammu and Kashmir’s Accession Day, and recognising Dogri as an official language.
Singh urged the Dogra community, especially the youth, to actively participate in India’s growth story. He noted that India today is vastly different from two decades ago. The minister encouraged embracing this change while contributing to the nation’s development journey.
The event underscored the significance of acknowledging and promoting regional legacies within India’s broader narrative. By doing so, communities like the Dogras can play a vital role in shaping a progressive future for the country.
