New Delhi: Delhi L-G VK Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of Arundhati Roy and former Professor of International Law in Central University of Kashmir and Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sedition.
Saxena has also given his nod to prosecute both for promoting religious enmity and seeking to disrupt public peace. The FIR in the matter was registered on a complaint made by Sushil Pandit in October 2010.
Earlier, in October 2023, the L-G had granted sanction under section 196 of CrPC to prosecute both under Sections 153A / 153B and 505 of IPC.
Former Delhi social welfare minister Raaj Kumar Anand has been disqualified from the membership of the Delhi assembly, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said on Friday.
“He was given three opportunities to be present and submit his stand in regards to why his membership of the Delhi Legislative Assembly should not be cancelled under the provisions of the anti-defection law; he did not appear on any of the three occasions, hence, he has been disqualified,” said Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
