Controversial Halt on Decades-Old Temple Rituals Stirs Outrage

Secunderabad: The Telangana Endowments Department has reportedly taken the controversial step of halting a long-standing morning ritual at the historic Tadbund Hanuman Temple, here. This decision has sparked widespread concern and criticism, especially among devotees who view the ritual as an integral part of their religious practice.

For over 30 to 40 years, a morning bhajan (devotional singing) session has been held at the temple every Saturday. The ritual, beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. and continuing until 12 noon, is followed by an aarti (ritual offering) that concludes by 12:30 p.m. This weekly event regularly attracts around a few hundred worshippers, who gather in devotion and prayer.

However, the sudden directive from the Endowments Department to cease these activities immediately has been perceived by many as unjust and disrespectful to the sentiments of the Hindu community. The move has been labelled a “reprehensible act” by devotees and has triggered widespread discontent among the faithful. Many argue that preventing devotees from participating in such rituals infringes upon their religious rights and traditions.

Law-abiding citizens and members of the Hindu community have called upon the government, led by Revanth Reddy, to intervene and direct the Endowments Department to reverse its decision. They view this as a “gag order” that undermines their religious freedom and cultural heritage.

A priest from the temple, speaking anonymously, expressed deep disappointment over the decision. He stated that the government’s actions amount to unwarranted restrictions on Hindu religious practices. The priest also voiced hope that the authorities would reconsider their stance and allow the rituals to continue, respecting the faith and traditions of the community.

The incident has ignited discussions about the role of government in religious affairs and the importance of safeguarding the rights of religious communities on social media. Many hope that “better wisdom” will prevail and that the Endowments Department will retract its decision, allowing the temple to resume its cherished traditions without further hindrance.
