Bengaluru/Mangaluru: Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra on Friday hit out at the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state over the murder of a Hindu activist and demanded an NIA investigation into the case.
Demanding that the state government provide compensation, the party has announced Rs 25 lakh for the family of Suash Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and Hindutva activist who was murdered by an unidentified group late on Thursday evening within the Bajpe police station limits in Mangaluru City.
“The barbaric murder of Hindu Karyakarta Suhas has shattered and shaken the entire Karnataka. Hindus in Karnataka are not feeling safe under the Congress tenure (under Siddaramaiah). This incident clearly shows failure of state machinery and negligence on the part of the police department,” he told reporters after attending Shetty’s funeral in Mangaluru.
Soon after the incident was reported, MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Vedavyas Kamath, Harish Poonja, BJP district president Harish Poonja, and representatives from various Hindu organisations rushed to the hospital. MLA Bharath Shetty said, “There is no protection for Hindu activists in the state. Anti-social elements are supported by the govt. It is a pre-planned murder. We urged the police to monitor those involved in the murder of Hindu activists. The state government is responsible for the activation of PFI sleeper cells in Karnataka,” he said.
