New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced 9 candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16, with party National President Nitin Nabin set to contest from Bihar.
From Bihar, the party has fielded Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar. In Assam, the BJP has nominated Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan, while in Chhattisgarh, it has named Laxmi Verma as its candidate. From Haryana, the party has selected Sanjay Bhatia. In Odisha, the BJP has nominated State unit chief Manmohan Samal along with Sujeet Kumar.
From West Bengal, the party has fielded Rahul Sinha. The elections to the Rajya Sabha are due to be held on March 16.
Sanjay Bhatia served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency from 2019 to 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he won the Karnal seat with a record margin of 6,56,142 votes, one of the highest in Haryana’s history.
Jogen Mohan currently holds several portfolios in the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government, including Transport, Hill Areas Development, Co-operation, and Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture.
Terash Gowalla is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Duliajan constituency in the Dibrugarh district of Assam.
Shivesh Kumar previously served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Agiaon constituency in Bihar.
Rahul Sinha is a former state president of the BJP West Bengal unit.
Laxmi Verma is a senior women’s leader in the Chhattisgarh BJP and has been serving as the vice president of the party’s state unit.
Sujeet Kumar was a member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat and the party in 2024 to join the BJP. He was re-elected to the same seat on a BJP ticket in a by-election.
