New Delhi: Forty-five-year-old Nitin Nabin was on Monday elected unopposed as the BJP national president, the youngest ever to occupy the post as it seeks to further expand its influence in uncharted territories.

Nabin, a five-term Bihar MLA and a former minister in the state, emerged as the sole candidate for the top party post with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders filing nomination papers in his support.

Nabin will be formally declared as the BJP president on Tuesday. He will succeed J P Nadda, who has been at the helm for an extended period since 2020.

The electoral college, comprising representatives from the party’s national council and state councils, will finalise the new president. As per the BJP constitution, a candidate must be proposed jointly by at least 20 members of a state’s electoral college and have a minimum of 15 years of membership.

If everything goes as planned, the BJP will announce its new national president on January 20, 2026. The event is being seen as a significant milestone in the party’s history, with Nabin’s election expected to bring a new wave of energy and unity to the party.

Nitin Nabin is currently 45 years old. He was appointed as the national working president on December 14, 2025. Now, the party is likely to make him the national president. If this happens, he’ll be the youngest ever to hold the post.

The BJP is gearing up for its national president election, and the party headquarters is buzzing with activity. The elevation of Nabin will also mark a huge generational shift for the party as it gears up for critical elections this year and next.
