Hyderabad: Konda Laxma Reddy, veteran journalist, former Chevella MLA, and senior Congress leader, passed away in the early hours of today at Apollo Hospital, here. He was 84.
Laxma Reddy’s body will be kept at his Jubilee Hills residence in Journalist B Colony, allowing relatives, friends, and colleagues to pay their last respects. The last rites are scheduled at Jubilee Hills Mahaprasthanam at 3 pm.
Born into a political legacy as the grandson of former Deputy Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, Laxma Reddy dedicated his life to both journalism and politics. His entire political career was closely linked with the Congress party, serving in key positions including President of the Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority and official spokesperson of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee Grievance Cell. He contested the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress candidate in 1999 and 2014.
A passionate journalist, Laxma Reddy founded the News and Services Syndicate (NSS) in 1980 and served as its Managing Director. He also held leadership roles as President of the Hyderabad Press Club, President of the Journalists’ Cooperative Housing Society, and Executive Member of the United Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists’ Union.
Condoling his death, leaders of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and Telangana Working Journalists’ Union (TUWJ) recalled Laxma Reddy’s decades-long contributions to journalism and his collaborative work in various professional associations.
