Sri Korawareshwara Hanuman Temple-Korwar

Korawareshwara Hanuman Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Korwar village in Sindagi Taluk of Bijapur district, Karnataka. It is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, who is worshipped here as Korawareshwara.

Sri Kshetra Korwar, originally known as Kokilapur, is a sacred pilgrimage site where the Korwaresh Vigraha was consecrated by Sri Sri 1008 Sri Vadiraj Teertha of Sonde Math in 1535, following divine instruction from Lord Korwaresh himself. The Vigraha, which resembles a Shaligram (a sacred fossil stone), stands 5 feet tall, with its hand raised above the waist in a blessing posture. The eyes, ears, shoulders, hands, and feet are clearly visible, making it a distinct and revered idol.

The Korawareshwara Hanuman Temple follows traditional South Indian temple architecture. The sanctum (garbhagriha) houses the Shaligram idol of Lord Hanuman, which is worshipped with great reverence. The temple complex includes a spacious prayer hall, beautifully sculpted pillars, and a mandapa (pavilion) for devotees to gather and participate in bhajans and poojas.

The temple has a long spiritual history dating back to the 16th century. It is believed that in 1535, the great saint Sri Sri 1008 Vadiraj Teertha of Sonde Math installed the 5-foot-tall Shaligram idol of Hanuman here. This event marked the transformation of the village into a sacred pilgrimage site. Over time, the temple gained fame for its miraculous powers and became a place of deep devotion.

According to local legends, Lord Hanuman himself instructed the saint to establish his idol in Korwar, promising to bless his devotees and fulfill their wishes. The idol of Lord Hanuman here is unique, with his left hand above the waist and his right hand raised in a blessing posture. Many believe that prayers offered here remove obstacles, bring success, and grant spiritual strength.

The temple hosts yearly grand celebrations from Ugadi to Hanuman Jayanti, along with weekly and monthly rituals such as Pallaki Seva every Saturday, Hanumad Vrata, Kartika Samaradhane, and Madhvanavami. This spiritual center continues to attract devotees seeking divine blessings and peace.
