Visakhapatnam: Dr Kutikuppala Suryarao, a renowned physician and Padma Shri awardee, fondly recalls one of the most unforgettable moments of his life, shared alongside some of India’s most iconic figures. He was honored with the Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2008, a prestigious ceremony that left a lasting impact on him.
Dr. Suryarao reminisces, “I still cherish the memory of sharing high tea with the legendary Ratan Tata at Rashtrapati Bhavan. It was an incredible moment to receive the Padma Shri while he was being honored with the Padma Vibhushan. The presence of other esteemed personalities such as Sachin Tendulkar, Lakshmi Mittal, Madhuri Dixit, Suseela Amma, and Viswanathan Anand made the event even more memorable.”
His family also shared in this special experience. “My wife, Smt. Gruhalakshmi, had a delightful conversation with Madam Sonia Gandhi, while my daughter, Dr. Shravana, enjoyed a chat with the ever-graceful Madhuri Dixit,” he recalls. Dr. Suryarao’s conversation with Ratan Tata was particularly significant, as they discussed the remarkable growth of the Tata Group and its impact on Indian industry.
He expressed deep admiration for Ratan Tata, describing him as a visionary leader and philanthropist whose legacy continues to inspire millions. “Ratan Tata’s contribution to the Tata Group and his dedication to society, especially through institutions like the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, is truly remarkable,” he said.
Dr. Suryarao concluded his reflections with heartfelt condolences, saying, “May his soul rest in peace. I share my grief with all Indians for the loss of a legend in the Indian industry. Ratan Tata’s legacy is not just in the companies he built but, in the lives, he touched and the society he transformed.”
