Shree Bhimnath Mahadev Temple- Ahmedabad

Shree Bhimnath Mahadev Temple in Ahmedabad. The temple is believed to be ancient and is associated with the Pandavas, especially Bhima. It is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River.

The main sanctum houses a Shiva Lingam, symbolizing Lord Shiva, and is accompanied by idols of other deities, including Lord Krishna and Goddess Ambe.

According to local traditions, during their exile, the Pandavas visited various regions, and Bhima’s devotion to Lord Shiva led to the establishment of several temples bearing his name. These temples often feature architectural styles characteristic of ancient Gujarat, with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

According to legend, the Pandavas visited this place during their exile. Arjuna had a rule not to eat without first seeing Lord Shiva. One day, while Arjuna was fasting, Bhima became very hungry. To solve this, Bhima makes a Shiva Linga out of clay, decorates it with flowers and bel leaves, and tells Arjuna, “Look, now you have seen Lord Shiva.”

Arjuna then performed Abhishekam to the Shiva Linga with great devotion. After completing the worship, the Pandavas had their meal. Arjuna’s devotion was so intense that the clay Shiva Linga became stone.

Later, Bhima jokingly said that the Shiva Linga was made of clay. But when he tried to lift it, the Shiva Linga did not move at all, proving its divine power and the strength of their faith.

The temple actively celebrates various Hindu festivals, with Maha Shivaratri being one of the most significant. During this festival, devotees participate in special prayers and rituals to honour Lord Shiva. Other festivals, such as Navratri, Diwali, and Holi, are also celebrated with enthusiasm, featuring cultural performances and traditional music, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
