Imphal: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to arrive in Manipur on November 20 for the first time since ethnic violence broke out two years ago, a functionary of the organisation said on Wednesday.
During his three-day stay, Bhagwat will interact with citizens, entrepreneurs, and representatives of the tribal community, RSS state general secretary Tarunkumar Sharma told PTI.
“Our Sarsanghchalak’s visit to the state is in connection with the centenary celebrations of the RSS. He is arriving from Guwahati on November 20 and will leave on November 22,” he said.
Ethnic violence between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo communities erupted in the State on May 3, 2023, killing around 250 people.
Mr. Bhagwat is likely to meet RSS karyakartas and interact with members of civil society groups in Imphal.
This is Mr. Bhagwat’s first visit to the State. On June 10, 2024, soon after the Lok Sabha results, Mr. Bhagwat called for peace in the strife-torn State, stating: “The State had been peaceful for 10 years. It had appeared that gun culture had ended. However, who is thinking of dousing the flames that have erupted now? Peace has to be considered on priority basis.”
The RSS, which calls itself a cultural organisation, is the ideological parent of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
