Kollam: Noted Malayalam actor T P Madhavan died at a private hospital here on Wednesday, film industry sources said. He was 88.
Madhavan’s death occurred while he was being treated at the hospital for various ailments.
He had been residing at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram for the past eight years.
Madhavan began his acting career later in life, making his film debut at the age of 40. His first film was Raagam, released in 1975. Over the course of his illustrious career, he acted in more than 600 films, earning acclaim for his versatility. Initially known for portraying villainous characters, Madhavan transitioned into comedy roles and later became celebrated for his impactful character performances.
In addition to his film work, Madhavan appeared in several television serials but later faced problems due to amnesia.
Since 2015, the actor had been residing at Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan following treatment for a stroke. He was honored with the Ramu Karyat Award and the Prem Nazir Award during his time at Gandhi Bhavan.
