New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the US on February 12-13 and hold bilateral talks with President Donald Trump, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.
In a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Vikram Misry said that Modi’s visit to the US – at the invitation of Trump – will give further impetus and direction to the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
“The Prime Minister will be among the first few world leaders to visit the US following Trump’s inauguration. The visit shows the importance of the India-US partnership and is reflective of the bipartisan support the partnership enjoys,” Misry said.
He said that PM Modi will also hold meetings with business leaders and interact with the diaspora during his two-day visit.
Senior US officials are also expected to call on the Prime Minister.
Misry said that PM Modi’s visit is in line with India’s steady engagement with the Trump administration. “During the first term of Trump, PM Modi visited US on two occasions (2017 and 2019). He was among the first world leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory. He also interacted with Trump following his inauguration during which the US President invited him,” Misry told reporters.
According to reports, PM Modi is expected to meet Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his visit as well.
