Each Graha was assigned specific duties to influence time, seasons, and human lives. The Grahas were created to oversee the effects of karma and ensure that the law of cause and effect was executed properly in the universe.

Origins of the Navagrahas (Nine Celestial Bodies)

Surya (Sun): Born from cosmic light and energy, representing divine power.

Chandra (Moon): Emerged during the churning of the ocean, symbolizing emotions and the mind.

Mangala (Mars): Son of Earth (Bhoomi), embodying courage, strength, and action.

The temple’s foundation is associated with the sacred mantra:

“Brahma Murari Tripurantkari, Bhanu Shashi Bhumisuto Budhasch!! Gurusch Shukra Shani Rahu Ketuvah Sarve Graha Shanti Kara Bhavantu!!”

This mantra embodies the essence of planetary peace and harmony. It is believed that the temple uniquely houses Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, represented in the form of Goddess Laxmi, and Lord Murari, symbolized by Shri Ram Tripurantkari, as well as Shree Panchmukhi Mahadev. The Garbhagriha serves as the sacred seat of the Pitambara Graha Shanti Peeth, where Goddess Baglamukhi resides along with the Brahmastra Chakra. The Suryanarayan Temple enshrines Lord Suryanarayan, depicted with his chariot of seven horses and the Siddha Ashtadal Suryayantra.

The Navgraha Mela is a significant event in Khargone, with a history dating back to the Peshwa dynasty. Initially, the fair was a small gathering near the temple, but from 1957-1958, the municipality of Khargone began organizing it. The fair, held annually from mid-February to mid-March, has become the largest in the Nimar region.
