Modi Must Act: Stop Mamata Before Bengal Slips Away

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s systematic suppression of Hindu festivities is nothing short of an alarming assault on the cultural and religious rights of the state’s majority. Time and again, her government has imposed arbitrary restrictions on Hindu celebrations while allowing unfettered freedom to other religious groups. Despite repeated rebukes from the state High Court, Mamata’s administration remains defiant. The question is: why does she persist in targeting Hindus? And more importantly, why is the Modi government watching from the sidelines as Bengal slips into an Islamist stronghold? Mamata, who conveniently claims to be a Hindu, has a track record that suggests otherwise. Her roots in erstwhile East Bengal (now Islamic Bangladesh) raise legitimate concerns about her allegiances, but her actions provide even stronger evidence of her agenda. Under her watch, the illegal influx of immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar has only intensified, aided by easy access to Aadhaar and Voter ID cards. These demographic shifts are not coincidental; they are a calculated political strategy to alter Bengal’s voter base, ensuring her grip on power while marginalizing the state’s Hindu population.

Ironically, the Modi government’s intelligence agencies have already identified these illegal voters, yet no decisive action has been taken. During the last Assembly elections, Hindu families residing in Muslim-majority areas were forced to migrate due to systematic targeting. Mamata’s track record is rife with incidents of anti-Hindu crackdowns—from arresting individuals for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to openly appeasing radical elements under the guise of secularism. Even former Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose repeatedly urged the Centre to impose President’s Rule, yet Modi’s government has inexplicably chosen silence over action. Why is the BJP allowing Mamata to continue this dangerous trajectory unchallenged? The demographic changes in Bengal are not happening in isolation. The same pattern is evident in states like Jharkhand, Telangana, and Karnataka, where governments led by opposition parties are enabling similar shifts. The longer the Centre delays in addressing this growing crisis, the harder it will be to reverse the damage. The time for half-measures is over. The BJP must stop treating Bengal as just another electoral battleground and recognize the existential threat unfolding in real time. The immediate solution lies in pushing through the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the ongoing Budget session. A robust UCC would empower the judiciary and law enforcement agencies to curb Mamata’s blatant communal politics and ensure that the rule of law is applied uniformly across religious groups. Prime Minister Modi has built his political career on the promise of protecting Hindu interests and upholding India’s constitutional integrity. His government can no longer afford to remain a mute spectator while Mamata Banerjee accelerates Bengal’s transformation into an Islamist stronghold. The time to act is now. Crack the whip, enforce the law, and restore balance before it’s too late.
