Gonda (UP): In a heartbreaking incident, the Dibrugarh Express (15904) derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives. This devastating news was confirmed by UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak to PTI.
The derailment occurred on Thursday, involving twelve coaches, including four AC coaches, of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. The accident took place between Gonda and Jhilahi at around 2:35 PM, according to railway officials. Media reports indicate that at least four of these coaches overturned.
Emergency responders, including police and local residents, swiftly arrived at the scene to engage in rescue operations. The Lucknow division of the North Eastern Railway has set up helpline numbers to assist those affected by the accident.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. In a statement posted on X, the CM’s office said, “Taking cognizance of the train accident in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district administration officials to expedite relief efforts. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to immediately transport the injured to hospitals and provide them with proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also responded to the incident, stating that his government is in communication with the relevant authorities following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. “HCM Dr @himantabiswa has been briefed about the derailment of Dibrugarh – Chandigarh express in Uttar Pradesh,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on X. “HCM is monitoring the situation, and the Government of Assam is in touch with the relevant authorities,” it added.
The train, bound for Dibrugarh in eastern Assam, derailed between the Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations at approximately 2:35 PM. The incident has prompted a coordinated response from state officials and local residents, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for assistance and support for those affected.
