Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the purpose and utility of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s visit to the state, calling it a “political eyewash” and a “desperate attempt to cover up the party’s failed promises.”
In a strongly worded statement, BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash said Kharge’s visit holds no significance for the people of Telangana, who are still awaiting the implementation of the much-hyped “six guarantees” promised by the Congress during the last Assembly elections.
“It has been over 18 months since the Congress came to power, yet not one of its flagship promises has been fulfilled. The people were misled by dynasts Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, and now they’re being served more hollow rhetoric,” Subash said.
He further ridiculed Kharge’s credibility as party president, pointing out the Congress chief’s own admission that he had no authority to intervene in the ongoing leadership tussle in Karnataka between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar. “When Kharge says he can’t speak on issues in his own state, what power does he have to address Telangana’s problems? This only confirms that he is a figurehead with no real control,” he added.
Subash accused the Congress of resorting to “jumlas and tokenism” by staging visits like these without delivering results on the ground. “This visit is nothing more than a PR stunt ahead of the local body elections. People should see through the theatrics and confront Kharge about the unkept promises,” he urged.
Highlighting the growing public disillusionment with Congress governments across states, Subash said misgovernance has become the party’s hallmark even in Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka. “How long does the Congress think it can drag its feet? Do they expect people to wait five years for basic promises to be honoured? The voters of Telangana are angry, and they will speak through the ballot in the coming local civic polls,” he warned.
The BJP has appealed to the people of Telangana to openly express their dissatisfaction and hold the Congress leadership accountable during Kharge’s visit.
