Palo Alto (California) – Amazon Inc. is set to make substantial investments in expanding its data centre operations and workforce in Hyderabad, Telangana. The move comes after successful discussions between Amazon’s senior leadership team, led by Kerry Person, Vice President of AWS Data Centre Planning and Delivery, and a delegation from Telangana, spearheaded by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu.
Amazon’s existing presence in Telangana is already robust, featuring the company’s largest corporate building worldwide, located in Hyderabad. Additionally, Amazon launched its dedicated air cargo network, ‘Amazon Air,’ in Hyderabad in 2023, further cementing its commitment to the region.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has recognized Hyderabad as a strategic hub, with three large data centres already in operation. The company has now outlined plans to further expand its operations, including the development of a new hyperscale data centre in Hyderabad, which will be pivotal for AI and machine learning-enabled services.
Minister Sridhar Babu, who led the talks on behalf of Telangana, expressed optimism about the collaboration. “Our discussions with Amazon were extremely positive and fruitful. We have assured Amazon of the best incentives and full support to help them achieve their goals in Hyderabad. We anticipate a significant expansion of their presence in our state,” he said.
Kerry Person, Vice President of Data Center Planning and Delivery at AWS, also shared his enthusiasm. “We are excited about the opportunity to further expand our cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad, Telangana, as a key part of AWS’s strategy in India. We believe the AWS Region in Hyderabad will play a crucial role in supporting AWS’s growth of cloud services in India, especially in the AI domain. AWS is committed to contributing to Telangana’s digital vision and empowering our customers and partners across the state and country as we strive towards India’s trillion-dollar digital economy goal,” Person stated.
As AWS expands its footprint in Telangana, the state is poised to solidify its position as a premier hub for cloud and data centre infrastructure in India. Amazon’s broad range of cloud services, including computing, storage, databases, networking, machine learning, and analytics, will now also incorporate AI capabilities.
Amazon, headquartered in Washington, D.C., boasts a market capitalization exceeding $1.89 trillion and employs over 1.5 million people globally. With its latest expansion plans in Telangana, the tech giant is set to play an even more significant role in India’s digital future
