Agroha Dham – Mahalaxmi Temple

Agroha Dham is located in Agroha town of Hisar district, Haryana. Agroha is believed to be an ancient settlement over 5,000 years old, associated with the legendary Maharaja Agrasen.

The present Agroha Dham temple complex was planned in 1976, and the main Mahalaxmi Temple was completed in 1984. Over the years, the complex has grown into a major spiritual and cultural centre.

The presiding deity of Agroha Dham is Goddess Mahalakshmi, the divine goddess of wealth, prosperity, and auspicious living. She is worshipped here as the giver of ethical wealth, harmony, and success.

Agroha Dham is built in the traditional North Indian temple style. The complex follows a three-wing architectural design, representing Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, and Maharaja Agrasen.

A major attraction is the Shakti Sarovar, a large sacred water tank behind the temple, filled with water collected from 41 holy rivers of India. Near the Sarovar is a sculptural depiction of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), adding mythological beauty to the complex.

In ancient times, Agroha was a prosperous trading city located on important trade routes of North India. It is considered the original homeland of the Agrawal community. Due to invasions and changing historical conditions, the city gradually declined and people migrated to different parts of India.

To revive the spiritual and cultural glory of this sacred land, Agroha Dham was established as a symbol of prosperity, service, unity, and moral values taught by Maharaja Agrasen.

According to sacred tradition, Maharaja Agrasen travelled across many regions seeking a land where people could live with peace, equality, trade, and dharma. He prayed to Goddess Mahalakshmi to guide him to a blessed land.

When the king reached the region of present-day Agroha, he witnessed a divine and rare sight — wild animals that were natural enemies were living peacefully together. Lions, cows, and deer moved without fear or conflict. The king understood this as a divine sign indicating the presence and blessing of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Maharaja Agrasen performed prayers and yajnas at this sacred spot. Pleased by his devotion, Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared in a divine vision and promised to permanently reside in Agroha. She blessed the land with prosperity earned through honest trade, generosity, and moral conduct.

She instructed the king to establish a society based on:

* Ethical business practices

* Charity and sharing

* Respect for all professions

* Social harmony

Following the goddess’s instructions, Maharaja Agrasen founded the city of Agroha, which soon became a flourishing centre of trade, culture, and generosity. New families were welcomed and supported by the community, reflecting the goddess’s blessings of abundance and unity.

Though Agroha later declined due to invasions, devotees believe that Goddess Mahalakshmi never left this sacred land. Her divine energy remained hidden, protecting Agroha through the ages. The establishment of Agroha Dham is believed to be the revival of her eternal presence.

Agroha Dham is especially vibrant during festivals. The most important celebration is the Agroha Maha Kumbh, held every year on Sharad Purnima, attracting thousands of devotees.

Other major festivals include Diwali, Navaratri,

Agrasen Jayanti, Vaikuntha Ekadashi. Special pujas, aartis, bhajans, and cultural events are conducted during these occasions.
