Who are you? Do you truly know yourself?
First, find out who you are. If you think you are just the body, it’s not possible, for the body has its limitations. If you think you are the mind, that too is limited; it’s just another layer. But if you realize you are Silence, or Space itself, then it is possible, because God too is Space.
Even Lord Rama once pondered this question. Moved by Hanuman’s boundless love, devotion, and dedication, Rama asked, “Hanuman, what is it like to be you?”
Hanuman replied, “When I am in body-consciousness, I am your servant. When I am in soul-consciousness, I am a part of you. But when I am in my being-consciousness — when I rest in my true self — I am you. There is no difference between us.”
It’s the same oneness we feel when someone blames your child — you take it personally, don’t you? Because the bond is one, inseparable. In truth, there is nothing other than God. God is not someone sitting far away in heaven. If He were, He wouldn’t be omnipresent — and then He would not be God.
So, what is God?
That which is present everywhere, all the time.
Forget the word ‘God’ for a moment — and simply observe this moment. This very moment has a mind of its own. The entire existence has an intelligence that keeps everything in perfect order. Just as your mind knows what to do, this vast cosmic mind — the universal consciousness — also knows what to do.
Right now, across the world, countless activities are taking place — some are sleeping, some waking, some beginning, some ending. All this is happening in the great Mind of the present moment. That Mind — that awareness — is what we call the Atma or God. And that is what you truly are.
So what is the difference between the Self and God?
The Self is like the wave; God is the ocean. Can there be a wave without the ocean? First realize the Self — then you will realize God, who is beyond the Self.
Space is everywhere. Everything exists in it. Even when you empty a box, something remains — space. Can anything touch space? Can anything destroy it? Likewise, your true nature is untouchable, indestructible.
Don’t get caught in endless philosophies about Atma (Self) and Paramatma (God).
People often ask, “Whom should we be grateful to?”
It doesn’t matter who — just be grateful. Gratitude itself is a divine quality of consciousness.
Think of your mind like a corn kernel — hard and closed. When the fire of wisdom touches it, it blossoms into popcorn — soft, open, and white inside and out. The Guru is that fire which makes you bloom.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow hasn’t arrived. Only this moment is here — alive and vibrant. Honour this moment, adore this moment. It’s not flat; it has depth. When you accept through the head, you understand horizontally. When you experience through the heart, you dive deep. Only when both come together do you gain true wisdom.
God — the Generator, Operator, and Destroyer — is Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.
The present moment generates, operates, and dissolves everything.
So remember — you are in God, and God is in you.
