Hyderabad: The City Police’s SHE Teams have earned widespread commendation for their proactive efforts in ensuring the safety of women during the 11-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Operating in densely populated areas such as Khairatabad Bada Ganesh, SHE Teams intensified their surveillance to curb harassment and indecent behavior.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cybercrimes), SHE Teams apprehended 996 individuals caught in the act of misbehaving with women. Of these, 200 were prosecuted and produced before the court, where they were found guilty. The court sentenced them to three days of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,050 under Section 292 of the IPC and Section 70 (c) of the Hyderabad City Police Act. These convictions were supported by video and photographic evidence of their inappropriate behavior in public spaces across Hyderabad.
For those offenders where evidence could not be captured, strict counselling sessions were conducted in the presence of their families. They were warned about their conduct and mandated to attend regular counselling sessions with SHE Teams. These individuals will remain under surveillance to ensure they refrain from repeating such actions.
The SHE Teams initiative is not solely focused on punishing offenders but aims to reform and rehabilitate misguided individuals, especially youth. Through regular counselling sessions, often held with the support of psychologists, offenders are encouraged to rethink their attitudes towards women and adopt respectful behaviour.
Citizens are urged to report any instances of harassment or misconduct they witness. SHE Teams can be reached via Dial 100 or WhatsApp at 9490616555 in case of emergencies. The teams remain dedicated to protecting women and maintaining Hyderabad as a safe city for all.
