Indian whisky Sales Supersedes Scotch; Three Monkeys celebrate

Panaji: For years, imported whiskies have been considered a status symbol in India. But the Indian and global palate is changing. Super-premium Indian whiskies are the new toast to whisky lovers globally and Three Monkeys Indian Single-malt whisky distilled by Dr. Mohan Krishna-led Cheers group is in the forefront.

The Indian whisky market is very crucial for the global well-being of the whisky category. After all, nearly one in every two bottles of whisky bought around the world is now sold in India. And, Indian brands are stepping up to cater to this huge burgeoning market.

Indian single malts are rated best among the world’s best whiskies year on year. Indian malt whiskies now get exported to over 60 countries worldwide as well, a remarkable feat. While single malt Scotch sales registered an annual growth of 35 percent in 2022, Indian single malt whisky sales shot up by 142 percent.

Indian six-rowed barley lends a different flavor compared to Scottish two-rowed barley. In addition to it, the rate of maturation in the warm Indian climate in India is up to five times faster than in Scotland. This means that a three-year-old whisky in India attains a maturation effect similar to a Scotch whisky that is 9–15 years old.

For a fine example, Three Monkeys Single Malt whisky made using ‘six-row’ barley from the foothills of the Himalayas, distilled and matured in Goa, produces a complex, fruity spirit with a rounded mouthfeel of super luxury.

Three Monkey’s name has since become synonymous with the concept of excellence through innovation. The brand’s award-winning series of competitions is a prime example. It won many prestigious gold medals at several competitions, including at SIP International awards in California, USA, and at New York International Spirits Competition, also bagged the “Best Indian Single-malt whisky Award”.

“The flagship Three Monkeys Indian Single-malt whisky attributes its success to its affordable luxury in price-point. Its biggest market is its native country India but is expanding its reach globally” says Ashwin Balivada CEO of Cheers group.

“A celebrated Indian Single-malt–Three Monkeys is a single malt whisky that is made especially for mixing as well. Keeping up with the times and the latest trends in mixology, the Three Monkeys is a controversial twist on how liquor is traditionally consumed” claims Dr. Divya Balivada, Global Creative Director of Cheers group.

Three Monkeys Indian Single-malt whisky is created by passionate master distillers of the Cheers group. Every sip has a surprising sweetness along with notes of peat. This malt gains notes of red berry from maturing in sherry and Bordeaux wine barrels. This super award-winning drink is full-bodied with a sophisticated finish with authentic ‘Indianness’, as it’s made with 100% Indian barley- malt. Cheers!
