(Negligence or failure, why can’t the police find it?)
In Haryana’s Hisar, a father, worried about his missing daughter, tried to meet Chief Minister Nayab Saini. During this, when the police stopped them from going to the CM, the couple tried to commit suicide. The incident happened when the Chief Minister’s convoy was on a tour to Hisar.
The father tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol on himself. But the security personnel present on the spot stopped him in time. According to a resident of Geeta Colony, his 16-year-old daughter has been missing since September 29. He has registered a missing person’s report by giving a complaint in the police station. He told me that he drives a car; the daughter has studied till ninth grade.
He said that she left the house at 6:10 am on September 29. But even after almost four months, the daughter has not been found. Where do the daughters of the country disappear? Why are our police unable to find the daughters? This has raised questions about the safety of women. Despite all the claims of the government, crimes against women are not stopping in India. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of interest in all political parties regarding this issue.
The safety of girls has always been a serious issue in India. Many laws have been made regarding this, but despite this, cases of missing girls are constantly coming to the fore in the country. According to statistics, more than 15.13 lakh girls and women have gone missing in India in the last two years.
Now no one knows where these women went or what happened to them. These missing girls include women both below and above 18 years of age. According to the report, 345 girls disappear every day in India. Out of these, 170 girls are kidnapped, 172 girls go missing, and about 3 girls are trafficked. Some of these girls are found, but there is no trace of a large number of missing, kidnapped, and trafficked girls. This number has been calculated based on reports lodged in police stations regarding missing women and girls.
However, social workers say that the actual number could be higher because many families do not report missing girls due to various reasons, including social stigma. According to the data, the maximum number of women have gone missing from Madhya Pradesh. After MP, Bengal is second in the list. Apart from these states, many cases of girls and women going missing have also been reported in the capital, Delhi. If the data is to be believed, the capital, Delhi, is at the top of this list among the Union Territories.
The report is shocking. Most of the girls who go missing, it is not known what has happened to them. Where have they gone? What is the secret behind their disappearance? On 16 December 2012, the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi shook the entire country. After this incident, many strict laws related to the safety of women were made, but the question is whether the conditions of women in the country have improved even after the laws were made or whether there has been any reduction in the crimes against women. Many laws have been made in India regarding the safety of women and girls.
To prevent sexual crimes in the country, old laws have been amended and made stricter. Apart from this, many stringent penal provisions have also been fixed in the country, including the death penalty for the culprit in the case of the rape of girls below 12 years of age. Many initiatives have been taken for the safety of women across the country, including the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, of 2013, for effective prevention against sexual crimes. Apart from this, the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018 was enacted to prescribe even more stringent penal provisions, including the death penalty for rape of girls below 12 years of age.
The Act also orders the completion of the investigation and the filing of the chargesheet in rape cases in two months and the completion of the hearing in the next two months. The government has launched the Emergency Response Assistance System, which provides an all-India, single internationally recognized number (112)-based system for all emergencies, in which field resources are dispatched to the crisis location with computer assistance.
Using technology to assist in smart policing and security management, safe city projects have been approved in eight cities—Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Mumbai—in the first phase. Yet women in India have been victims of sexual offenders even 10 years ago, and the situation is still very similar today.
Cases like molestation, kidnapping, and rape are not stopping in the country. Despite all the claims of the government, crimes against women are not stopping in India. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of interest of all political parties regarding this issue. Every woman and girl need to know about some laws regarding the safety of women in the country. These laws include the National Commission for Women Act, the Women Safety Law, and the POCSO Act Law.
