Hyderabad: Dr. Zelalem Birhanu Taffesse, UNICEF Chief of Field Office for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, has complimented MNR University’s holistic community-centric and service-oriented education.
Accompanied by Dr. Sridhar, UNICEF Health Specialist, Dr Zelalem visited the MNR University’s sprawling campus at Fasalwadi, Sangareddy, and interacted with the university leadership, faculty, staff, and students on Friday.
Emphasis on Compassionate Care
Dr. Zelalem stressed that “Service to the community should be the core value of every doctor.” He commended MNR Medical College’s dedication to improving child health outcomes through initiatives like the MNR Medha – Genius Child Movement. This programme, launched on August 8, 2020, demonstrates a holistic approach to child development, engaging parents and promoting early childhood development.
The UNICEF chief said that the MNR Medha programme reflects the global thinking of the management. “This programme is a true reflection for global thinking of the management and deserves to be emulated. No meaningful improvement in health outcomes is possible without engaging parents,” he observed.
By prioritizing compassion, ethics, and responsibility, MNR Medical College demonstrates its dedication to improving child healthcare and promoting a holistic approach to medical education.

Dr. Zelalem was accorded a warm welcome by Chancellor Mr. Ravi Varma and Vice Chancellor Prof. Krishna Chalam, and both shared the university’s grand vision. Prof. Satyanarayana, Registrar, MNR University, and Prof. Satyanarayana Murthy, CEO, MNR Hospitals, also shared their insights.
