Collectors are ‘eyes and ears’ of government: Telangana CM Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has emphasized the crucial role of district collectors as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Telangana Government. He urged them to deeply understand the aspirations of the people at the grassroots level, ensuring that every action they take instills confidence in the government’s commitment to people-centric service delivery.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of transparency in the district collectors’ duties, stressing their responsibility to balance welfare and development while effectively implementing government schemes at the grassroots level. He underscored the necessity of field visits for district collectors, urging them to step out of the comfort of their air-conditioned offices to truly grasp the needs and expectations of the people.

Addressing the Collectors’ conference, Revanth Reddy stated, “You, the district collectors, are the government’s eyes and ears. Many of you come from various states and are working here in Telangana. To serve the people effectively, you must immerse yourself in Telangana’s culture.”

He called on district collectors to work with a human touch, making decisions that genuinely benefit the people. “You must emulate the exemplary service of retired IAS officers S. R. Shankaran and E. Sreedharan, who are fondly remembered by the common people for their outstanding work,” he said. He urged them to ensure their actions reflect a people-centric government and provide transparent and good governance.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of education in Telangana’s development. He highlighted that the government spends Rs.85,000 monthly on each poor student, and it is the collectors’ duty to ensure these funds benefit the intended recipients. He urged them to protect the education system and regularly supervise government schools and hospitals.

Revanth Reddy emphasized the need for district collectors to build a rapport with the people, similar to the bond between teachers and students. He envisioned a scenario where people respond to a collector’s transfer with the same sentiment as they would to a family member’s departure, indicating the strong impact of their work.

He concluded by urging district collectors to promptly resolve people’s problems and implement the government’s six guarantees transparently, reinforcing the belief that this is a government truly for the people.
