Operation Sindoor Set to Enter NCERT Textbooks

New Delhi: In a move aimed at instilling awareness of national security and strategic defence among students, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is developing a special educational module on Operation Sindoor, sources have confirmed.

The module, designed to span 8 to 10 pages, will be integrated into NCERT textbooks across classes 3 to 12 and will highlight India’s swift and coordinated military response following the Pahalgam terror attack. To make the content age-appropriate, the curriculum will be split into two sections: one for students in classes 3 to 8 and another for those in classes 9 to 12.

According to officials familiar with the development, the new content will help students understand how India counters terrorism, detailing the crucial roles played by the armed forces, diplomacy, and inter-ministerial coordination in ensuring national security.

Operation Sindoor was launched after the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians were brutally gunned down in front of their families in Jammu and Kashmir. In a decisive counterstrike, India targeted terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and deeper within Pakistani territory, triggering a four-day military conflict between the two nations.

The inclusion of Operation Sindoor in school syllabi is part of a broader effort to enhance students’ understanding of national defence and the real-world application of strategy and coordination in times of crisis.

Meanwhile, Parliament is scheduled to begin a special discussion on Operation Sindoor on Monday, following a week-long delay in proceedings. The three-day debate, spanning 16 hours, is expected to feature key interventions from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
