Vijayawada: As per the directives of Railway Board, RPF staff of Vijayawada Division on Wednesday has launched “Meri Saheli” initiative in Tr. No.07225 Amaravathi Express between Vijayawada-Hubli. The sole objective of “Meri Saheli” initiative is to provide a safe & secured environment to lady passengers travelling in trains throughout their journey.
To carry out this novel initiative an all women team headed by one RPF lady sub-Inspector and few lady constables has been constituted at Vijayawada Railway station to assist the women passengers on train. The Women team had inspected entire coaches of Amaravathi Express and briefed the women passengers on precautions to be taken during the journey and 182 Emergency helpline in case of any emergency, along with Covid-19 protocol and guidelines. They have also taken the names and contacts of women passengers especially who are travelling alone and the same was also conveyed to enroute stations. Pamphlets containing the Emergency Helpline no.182 were distributed to all the women passengers by the team.
This initiative is launched by RPF to continuously monitor the Safety of lady passengers from the originating station till the train reaches destination station. . The on duty RPF Escorts and staff on platform duty at the enroute stations will be alerted immediately in case of any distress calls. Also, the women team will enquire regarding the safety of lady passengers and problems if any.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Sachin Bhalode, Sr Divisional Security Commissioner said that this is an excellent initiative to reach out to women passengers in distress. He also said that in case of any distress calls from helpline no.182, it would be taken in top priority to dispose it speedy manner. He appreciated Smt P. Chandini, SI/Post, Vijayawada and women staff for conducting this campaign with good dedication and spreading awareness about the Emergency helpline no. 182 and ensuring a safe and secure environment.
