(Online Desk)

Cyclone ‘Amphan’ has started the landfall process as an extremely severe cyclonic storm with the forward sector of the wall cloud region entering into land, the IMD said. The landfall is likely to begin from 4 pm between Digha in West Bengal and Hatia islands in Bangladesh and completely enter land by 7 pm.

All flyovers in Kolkata have been closed and airport authorities have suspended flight operations till 5 AM tomorrow. Mud houses have collapsed and trees were uprooted in Kakdwip, South 24 Parganas district.

‘Amphan’ is likely to move north-northeastwards after landfall and pass close to Kolkata in its eastern side, causing extensive damage and flooding of low-lying areas in the city, the weather office said.
