The first woman president of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Darvesh Yadav, was shot dead on the Agra Civil Court premises, by her colleague. The attacker fired three rounds at Yadav, who was inside the chambers of senior lawyer Arvind Kumar Mishra.

The accused, Advocate Manish Sharma, later shot himself.

The two were rushed to Pushpanjli hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The condition of Sharma remains critical.

Darvesh Yadav was elected to the post just two days ago at Prayagraj.

Manish Sharma was her close associate. The two were meeting lawyers in their chambers to thank them for their support.

Some eye witnesses said the two had heated arguments in Arvind Mishra’s chamber, when Manish Sharma lost his cool, pulled out his pistol and fired at Darwesh from point blank range.

Media reports state that the Oudh Bar Association condemned the incident and resolved to abstain from work tomorrow in protest.
