AP CM claims ‘Tika Utsav’ success, asks PM to release 60L more vaccines

Amaravati:  Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday claimed that as many as 6.28 people got inoculated during the ‘Tika Utsav’ and sought the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s help to get another 60 lac vaccines for the state.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, he said “in accordance with your call for ‘Tika Utsav”, we have taken up vaccination on a large scale.  I am happy to bring to your kind notice that we have vaccinated 6,28,961 persons on a single day on April 14.  This is highest single day Covid vaccination numbers by any state in the country.”

“We could achieve this in my state as we have leveraged the village and ward volunteer system which is a unique decentralized governance mechanism where a dedicated volunteer takes care of the needs of 50 families.  These volunteers have been roped in to mobilize eligible persons for vaccination. The entire district administration is also involved in this drive. Vaccination was carried out in one village or ward secretariat in the jurisdiction of each PHC, both in rural and urban areas with an objective to vaccinate all eligible people in that secretariat.  Such a saturation approach not only focuses the entire district administration but also motivates people to get vaccinated through community mobilization in the true spirit of Tika Utsav,” he claimed.

He further stated that his government could also establish the capability of vaccination over six lakh people per day, but also set up a model for all the states to emulate.  However, he says, his government could not continue the pace of inoculation as vaccine stocks got exhausted.  “If sufficient stocks are provided to us, my government is confident to complete vaccination of all vulnerable people in a jiffy,” he pointed out.
