Vijayawada: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed city late on Tuesday evening, throwing life out of gear. Though the rain gave much-needed respite to the residents from the scorching heat, it created panic as several trees were uprooted in the strong wind, resulting in traffic chaos at major junctions in the city.
The rain, which lasted nearly an hour, disturbed power supply in several localities of the city. However, no untoward incidents were reported. Trees were uprooted at Moghalrajpuram, Nehru Nagar and Seetharampuram.
The municipal and electricity officials said they have received many complaints regarding water stagnation at various places of the city.
Power supply got snapped in several localities for a while and it was restored within an hour. The municipal corporation officials deployed enough number of staff to clear the uprooted trees and ensure free flow of traffic.
