KRAS receives $100 M Order from Israel’s RAFAEL


Hyderabad:  Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS) on Thursday received a $100 million contract for manufacturing 1,000 Barak-8 MRSAM missiles’ kits at a simple ceremony in Hyderabad.

Set up in 2017, the Kalyani Group has entered into a joint venture with Israeli-based Rafael to form KRAS.  The Israel company is engaged in manufacturing Air & Missile Defense Systems Division.

The RAFAEL’s Executive Vice President & General Manager, Brigadier General (ret.) PiniYungman, has handed over the Contract Order to Kalyani Baba, the Chairman of the Kalyani Group.

KRAS is a 49:51 ratio Joint Venture with the Indian partner holding 51%.

Keeping with its commitment to ‘Make-in-India’, the  JV partners have invested in best in class production facilities, state of the art engineering services, and extended Life cycle support (MRO) for systems supplied to Indian Defence force.

KRAS is expected to ramp up its employee strength to 300 technical experts by the year 2023.

Speaking on the occasion, Brig (ret.) PiniYungman emphasized KRAS’s commitment to the operational readiness of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF). “We at RAFAEL are proud of our role – not only in KRAS – but also of our participation in Make-in-India, and our strong relationship with the vibrant talent across India’s defense industries. As we mark end of this project, we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with KRAS as well as our many other partners like BDL within India.”

“The India-Israel collaboration in manufacturing advance missile systems and other needed weaponry for Indian armed forces was materialized after series of meetings held by both the countries prime ministers,” said Col Bhatia of Kalyani Group.

The function was also attended by the senior officials of Indian armed forces stationed in Hyderabad.
