KCR govt to move SC to challenge the HC’s 50% reservation ceiling in panchayat polls


Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minster K Chandrasekhara Rao on Tuesday made it clear that his government move the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict imposing 50 per cent ceiling on reservations in upcoming panchayat polls.

He referred to the apex court’s earlier order which allowed 61 per cent reservation in Telangana including 34% to the backward classes.

Chief Minister ha instructed the cabinet subcomittee to meet on Wednesday and do needed exercise for filing a petition in Supreme Court.  He also suggested to extend invite to the Additional Addvocate General as well as all concerned officicers to the scheduled cabinet sub-committee meeting to deliberate the issue at the length.

He blamed the Congress party through its its sarpanch Swapna Reddy opposing the 34% reservations to BCs proposed by his government in the court. “We are committed to provide 34% reservations in the BCs and leave no stone uturned to achieve our objective,” he added.
