Cyclone Vayu may not hit Gujarat: IMD

As Gujarat and Diu brace to face “very severe” cyclone Vayu, India Meteorological Department has just announced that the cyclone will not hit Gujarat as it has moved towards the sea.

According to reports, the Cyclone which is at present a Category 2 storm may weaken into a Category 1 storm soon. However, the effect will be seen on the coastal regions as there will be heavy wind speed and heavy rain as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah Wednesday took stock of the situation prayed for the safety of people of Gujarat.

The Home Minister also informed that the authorities have evacuated about 3.1 lakh people living in the low-lying areas and the NDRF has pre-positioned 52 teams for rescue and relief operations.

“Gujarat has evacuated about 3 lakh people and Diu has evacuated over 10,000 people from low-lying areas to safer places. MHA is in continuous touch with state govts/UT and central agencies. The NDRF has pre-positioned 52 teams equipped with boats, tree-cutters, telecom equipment etc,” Shah tweeted.
