Srinagar: At least eighteen CRPF personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday when a blast ripped through the bus they were travelling in, according to unconfirmed reports.
The Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the incident, they said. The casualties are likely to go up. Several people were injured in the IED blast, which reduced the bus to a mangled heap of iron.
The vehicle was blown up on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Awantipora area of the district, a police official said. Further details of the incident are awaited, he added.
Senior CRPF officials, though refused to give the official number of casualties, only said all those injured rush to the hospital and probe is on what lead to the attack. “We shall share all information, once our probe is over,” IG of CRPF told newsmen.
The attack is considered to be the worst-ever in the recent past by the Jaishe-Mohd terror outfit, which, according to TV reports claimed responsibility and also confirmed of one of their suicide squad member got killed in the attack.
Incidentally, the attack takes place two years after Uri.
